Few of the minigames in Wii Fit U involve classic reps and sets; instead, Nintendo puts its usual spin on things, having you, say, slalom down a snow course on a Wii Balance Board (a surprisingly effective abdominal workout) or tasking you with other simple games. Kaehler admits she fell in love with a handful of the minigames, and she's sure the title has a place in the fitness community. The ease of the Fit Meter helps, too. "You can sync it with your Wii Fit U (on) console, and the screen, and you can now see what your physical activity means," says Kaehler.

Pop in a workout DVD I must admit that I used to be a workout DVD junkie. It all started years ago during college when my school schedule began to take over my life. I had five courses in one semester, and a part-time job on the side. There simply wasnt enough time in a day to visit the gym, so I headed to Target, picked up a workout DVD and embarked on my journey to get fit. I lucked out the first time around and found a fitness guru I absolutely loved, so I purchased the entire collection on Amazon for $22.

The Fitbit Force, which retails for about $130, is a wristband that tracks a users daily activity, from calories burned to steps taken. The company suspects that nickel in the metal parts of the fitness tracker may be causing skin irritations for some. "We are looking into reports from a very limited number of Fitbit Force users who have been experiencing skin irritation, possibly as a result of an allergy to nickel, an element of surgical-grade stainless steel used in the device," a Fitbit spokesperson said in a statement. Although the practice is not new to Singapore, it is set to become more prevalent, particularly with the 24-hour gym facility Anytime Fitness, an American fitness chain that plans to open 100 outlets in the Republic over the next five years. Some studies suggest running at night carries a higher risk of injury due to fatigue and supposedly disrupts the natural sleep cycle. But former national sailor Ben Tan, now senior consultant at Changi Sports Medicine Centre, said there are more health benefits with exercising in the wee hours as it helps reduce stress levels and anxiety as well as improve sleep quality. There is no serious concern of exercising at night, as our bodies are highly adaptable as opposed to the general sentiments that we have an optimal time to work out, said Tan.
